PIA adds another aircraft in the fleet, Airbus A320 Lands in ISB

An Airbus A320 registration OE-IOR has been added to the fleet of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after arriving in Islamabad as delivery flight from Perpignan (France) via Cairo (Egypt).

According to details, the Airbus A320 aircraft which was built in 2017 has joined PIA fleet as dry leased aircraft for six years from Seraph Aviation. The national flag carrier has acquired two aircraft on dry lease for six years, the second one to reach Pakistan in a few days.

According to PIA spokesman, the five-year-old aircraft had been procured through a tender which has arrived in Islamabad today [Tuesday]. The second plane will also reach Pakistan within this week.

“Because of the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions, we have not been able to acquire new aircraft in the last two years,” the spokesman said, adding that the new aircraft would replace the old ones in the PIA fleet.

On Monday, PIA’s flight PK-6249 became the first commercial airline to land in the Afghan capital, Kabul, after the Taliban formed a government after a 20-year war. PIA is the national airline of Pakistan, which operates flights nationally and internationally and also played a key role in the evacuation of foreigners from Afghanistan.

Unlike other airlines, right till the end, Pakistan’s national flag carrier was the only commercial airline connecting and evacuating foreigners stranded in Afghanistan. However, inadequate facilities and garbage on the runway became an obstacle for flight operations at the airport.
