In the past two weeks, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has canceled 349 flights due to a fuel shortage, highlighting the challenges faced by the financially struggling national carrier.
These flight disruptions, which began on October 14, have impacted both domestic and international routes, according to a PIA spokesperson.
This situation arises in the context of the interim government’s decision to privatize the airline as part of a fiscal austerity plan, in compliance with an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reached in June. PIA has incurred substantial losses and liabilities, making it financially unsustainable, as per the interim government’s assessment.
