PIA flight from Karachi to Toronto forced to turn back after passenger falls ill

Jan 16, 2022: According to a report by the Express Tribune, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilot refused to fly from Riyadh to Islamabad on Sunday, saying his duty was over, prompting the passenger to refuse to disembark.

According to the PIA administration, PK 9754 originated from Riyadh but due to bad weather it landed in Dammam. The flight captain then refused to fly the plane to Islamabad, saying his duty hours were over. Passengers, disturbed by the unexpected turn, refused to disembark in protest. However, airport security was called in to control the situation.

A PIA spokesman said pilots need to rest properly before taking off for flight safety, so arrangements have been made. He said that the passengers would land in Islamabad tonight at 11 o’clock.

In November, the national flag carrier announced that it was expanding its flight operations to Saudi Arabia. According to the spokesperson, PIA flights will depart from different cities of the country including Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar.
