PIA pilots leaving national carrier to join Ethiopian, Qatar Airways jobs

The Pakistan International Airline pilots are leaving the national airlines carrier to get jobs in Qatar Airways and European Airlines.

MNA Saira Bano talking to media said she asked Finance Minister Ishaq Dar about the 38 percent tax on pilots salary, the minister replied with examples from the European countries.

Saira Bano said that after 22 years of service as pilot with 30,000 flying hours, pilots are getting gross salary Rs800,000 in which government cut Rs350,000 in tax domains.

She questioned then who would remain in this country.

Saira Bano said federal ministers gave examples of European countries without giving any reference of aviation facilities. The lawmaker said that instead dos super taxation, the assets (PIA) should be sold on OLX.

 

She commented that this year the government cut down the Hajj flight operation on PIA flights to 50 percent without giving any reasons.

Saida Bano said the real reason was shortage of pilots as pilots are not available due to grim rest hours.

The lawmaker urged the aviation decision makers to take right decisions and in favour and welfare of the pilots to take the nations airline the world class airline.

Earlier, Senator Saleem Mandviwala refuted the claim made by former Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan regarding the issuance of fake licences to pilots. “I reiterate that no fake pilot exists,” stated Mandviwala.

The comments were made following a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation’s Sub-Committee on May 24, where the Sub-Committee decided to examine the suspended pilots’ cases.
