PIA receives second A320 acquired under dry lease agreement

Oct 24, 2021: The second Airbus A320, acquired by Pakistan International Airlines on a six-year dry lease, touched down at Islamabad International Airport on Saturday morning.

A PIA spokesman said the plane landed at the airport from the French city of Perpignan via Egypt. The spokesman said the national airline had also acquired a dry lease aircraft three weeks ago, which is now part of the PIA fleet. The second Airbus A320 will formally join the PIA fleet in the next few days.

He said it would be the third aircraft to be part of the PIA fleet under the current government. With the addition of this aircraft, the total number of Airbus A320s in the PIA fleet has increased to eleven.

With the arrival of this Airbus A320, the fleet of national flagship aircraft will increase to 29 aircraft of different brands.

According to the business plan, more aircraft will become part of the PIA fleet. PIA Chief Executive Officer Arshad Malik thanked Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan and the Finance Ministry for their cooperation in purchasing the aircraft.

Air Marshal Arshad Malik said that the acquisition of new and improved aircraft would significantly increase the productivity of PIA.

A PIA spokesman said the two dry-leased aircraft from the Bank of Utah were built in 2017 and had a capacity of 170 seats. PIA plans to upgrade its fleet with new versions of fuel-efficient high-tech aircraft.
