Pakistan CAA Sleeps as Kuwait Bars PIA's Flight Operations

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is facing difficulties in operating flights to Kuwait as Civil Aviation authority in Kuwait refuse to allow operation despite its airlines being allowed to operate in Pakistan.

According to the details, Kuwait Airlines have full permission to fly to Pakistan but Kuwait CAA has refused to allow Pakistani Airlines to operate. It was also stated that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan has no interest in the matter of the national airline.

PIA is successfully operating flights to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. The national flag carrier also operates in Central Asian countries, as well as Canada and Malaysia.

Despite European sanctions on the Pakistan CAA, PIA is at the forefront of providing safe travel facilities around the world. Recent flights from Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif are a testament to PIA’s professionalism and safety standards.

The national flag carrier has also successfully undergone a safety audit carried out by transport authorities in Canada and International Air Transport Association (IATA).

However, Kuwait is the only odd country whose CAA has barred PIA to operate to/from Kuwait. Contrarily and unfortunately, Pakistan CAA has allowed two Kuwait-based airlines, Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, to operate freely to/from Pakistan.

Recently, PIA was among the preferred airlines to airlift displaced passengers from Kuwait to Toronto but Kuwait airlines prevailed and did not allow Kuwait CAA to allow PIA to operate, thus grabbing the whole business.

When will the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan wake up from its slumber to protect national interests? Serious questions have also been raised over the role of Pakistan’s CAA that has failed in raising the issue with competent authorities in the kingdom.

Pakistan’s CAA has no interest in the national airline and it is high time to enforce transparency and discipline within the regulatory body.

Pakistan is paying a heavy price domestically as well as internationally for the incompetence of those at the helm of affairs in CAA because of these shady appointments and it’s time to start seriously thinking about the future of Pakistan’s aviation sector.
