Oct 10, 2021: National flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to expand its charter flights operations to the UK and EU countries.
In view of the recent lifting of restrictions on Pakistani passengers by the UK government, PIA has invited bids from charter aircraft companies to increase the operation of its flights to the UK and Europe. PIA requested service for four-month flights from November 2021 to April 2022.
The charter aircraft company must have an International Air Transport Association (IATA) operational audit operator certificate.
PIA needs 250 seater airplanes for running a charter service.
According to PIA, charter flights will be operated from Islamabad and Lahore to London, Manchester, Birmingham, Paris and Milan.
A PIA spokesman said PIA was operating charter flights to the UK and Europe and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as an alternative to continuing its flight operations following the airline’s ban on flights.
A spokesperson for the airline said chartered flights will facilitate passengers as well as boosting revenue for the airline. On Friday, the UK lifted the quarantine ban on travelers from Pakistan with UK-approved vaccines.
Passengers who have received doses of the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Moderna Covid 19 vaccines are exempt from isolation after arriving in the UK from Pakistan. However, the UK has announced that it will not accept any passengers with the Chinese Covid 19 vaccine. The new guidelines will take effect on October 11.
