PIA’s Roosevelt Hotel given to NYC admin to house migrants under agreement

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has signed a new agreement for its Roosevelt Hotel in the United States of America, which help in generating the revenue valued of $5.4 million annually.

PIA has entered into a new agreement with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation for its Roosevelt Hotel in the USA.

Under this agreement, the PIA’s owned hotel will be operated by the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation for a period of three years, while the sources revealed that this agreement is valued at an annual amount of $5.4 million.

Earlier, New York Post reported that hundreds of asylum seekers could be poised to reside at New York City’s Roosevelt Hotel in the coming weeks, with the Big Apple eying a deal to turn the iconic building into its latest migrant shelter.

The Adams administration was in talks to convert the historic Manhattan hotel, located at 45 East 45th Street, into an emergency shelter as the city grapples with the ongoing surge of migrants, several people familiar with the matter said Tuesday.

The Big Apple reportedly offered to secure 1,025 hotel rooms for migrants on a daily basis for 36 months at the rate of $200, according to Minute Mirror, a Pakistani news site. The Post has not been able to independently confirm these details.

That’s an estimated eye-watering total of $225 million over three years.

The 1,000-room luxury hotel, owned by Pakistan International Airlines, shuttered in 2020 due to financial strains brought on by the COVID pandemic and has yet to reopen, though a handful of businesses still operate storefronts on the ground floor of the building
