India: Kanpur has banned pitbull and rottweiler breeds of dogs within the city limits. This comes after a pitbull attacked a cow in Kanpur’s Sarsaiya Ghat.

“In order to protect the public, pitbull and rottweiler dogs have been banned within the city limits. After an incident where a Pitbull dog attacked a cow at Sarsaiya Ghat and in view of increasing incidents of Pitbull dog attacks, this decision was taken,” Kanpur’s Mayor Pramila Pandey said, reported news agency ANI.

Recently, a video of a pitbull dog attacking a cow in Uttar Pradesh surfaced online amid the recent spate of attacks by dogs, pets and strays. In the video, the ferocious dog, seemingly unaware and not affected by the commands of his owner, was seen clinging to the cow’s jaw and muzzle. It let go of the cow’s face only after locals and the dog’s owner intervened and hit the dog with a cane stick.
