Bill Gates arrives in Islamabad on one day visit

Oct 6, 2021: Microsoft founder Bill Gates spoke to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday and discussed efforts to eradicate polio in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He discussed the current health situation in Afghanistan and expressed concern over the country’s efforts to eradicate polio so that the people of Afghanistan would be protected from the disease and protect Pakistan’s gains from the virus.

During the call, Prime Minister Imran Khan highlighted threats apart from polio and said that more than half the population of the war-torn country is living below the poverty line and is in dire need of financial assistance.

He called on Bill Gates to consider providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. Gates also praised Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate the disease and pledged his continued support against the disease so that no child in Pakistan would be paralyzed by it in the future.

Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterated his government’s commitment to eradicate all forms of polio in Pakistan.

The PM told Gates that Pakistan had reported only one case of wild poliovirus this year and the progress against polio virus is positive.
