PM Imran Khan announces launch of ‘Kisaan Portal’

Oct 15, 2021: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday launched the Kisaan Portal, a special category for farmers in the Pakistan Citizen Portal – saying it would give voice to small farmers who were “silent” in front of powerful people.
Addressing a launch event in Islamabad, he noted that 90 per cent of farmers own small plots of land but their problems never a priority. Talking about the life and trials of farmer, he said, “He works hard and has no voice in front of the powerful. If a corrupt policeman enters the area, the farmer suffers the most.”
Talking about the situation of farmers in the country, the Prime Minister said that all the research had shown how small farmers paid the highest price when buying something from the market but their crop was the lowest compared to large farmers. Sold at a price.
The Prime Minister said that he wanted to continue to help the farmers and he has decided to get the full value of their crop when he comes to power. As a result of the government’s efforts, production increased after farmers received their due money, he added, adding that the government needed to help farmers more. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has reduced its research expenditure in the past, pointing out that the countries which have invested in research have increased agricultural production.
Highlighting the importance of agricultural research and development, PM Imran Khan said, “Unless you do research, participate in seed development, how will your productivity increase?”
He also lamented the lack of dairy produce the country has been able to gain through cows.
Prime Minister Imran also lamented that the country had not worked on building reservoirs and dams in the past, which could have provided more water to farmers, adding that Pakistan has a lot of cultivated land which can be utilized.
Elaborating on the steps being taken by the government to help the farmers, he said that the government has introduced Kisan Card to provide direct subsidy to the farmers. He said that now a small farmer would get money directly through Kisan Card.
The Sehat Insaf Card, through which every family would be able to get treatment of up to Rs1 million at any hospital, would also help farmers, the premier said.
Prime Minister Imran said that the agriculture sector was also made a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Pakistan was taking help from China to increase agricultural productivity.
Explaining how the farmers portal would work, the Prime Minister said that the calls of farmers would go directly to the office of the Chief Secretary.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), 123 dashboards have been set up at the federal and provincial levels. The Prime Minister stressed that through this portal we will ensure that small farmers are not oppressed in any way.
He urged the farmers to “think that this government is yours. We will give you the full price and help you in every possible way.” “When we help our farmers, we will help Pakistan,” he added.
