PM Imran Khan announces reduction in petrol, electricity prices

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan announced on Monday that the price of petrol will be reduced by Rs 10 and electricity by Rs 5 per unit and there will be no change in the price of both items till the next budget.

In a special address to the nation, PM Imran Khan, while talking exclusively on the country’s foreign policy, said that he had recently made two visits, one to China and the other to Russia. He said that the situation in the world was changing rapidly and it was affecting Pakistan.

The Prime Minister said that OGRA had sent a summary stating that the price of petrol and diesel would have to be increased by Rs 10 per liter as oil prices have hiked in the global market.

“I received a summary from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and they recommended increasing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 10 due to the rise in the price in global markets,” he said.

“So today I want to tell you guys this good news that, instead of increasing it, we will decrease petrol price by Rs 10.”

“Till the budget, the prices of petrol and electricity will not be increased,” the PM announced.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister also announced to reduce the price of electricity by Rs. 5 per unit and said that this measure would reduce the electricity bill by 20 to 50 percent.

The relief was announced by the premier as he addressed the nation about the country’s economic situation and the global challenges in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Referring to his visit to Russia, the Prime Minister said that the purpose of his visit to Russia was to sign wheat and gas import agreements.
