PM Johnson says British troop reinforcements have landed in Poland

Feb 10, 2022: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said his country’s troops arrived in Poland on Thursday, when he visited the EU member state amid growing fears of a Russian invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

Britain announced earlier this week that it would send 350 more troops to the eastern part of NATO to counter any Russian aggression.

After his meeting with his Polish counterpart, Mateusz Morawiecki, PM Johnson said, “Earlier today, the UK’s 45 Commando Unit touched down in Poland,”

“We need to work together now to achieve de-escalation and to persuade (Russian President) Vladimir Putin to de-escalate and to disengage, Poland and the UK won’t accept a world in which a powerful neighbour can bully or attack their neighbours.” He added.

Morawiecki commented on the development saying, “It is about time that the world, and Western Europe in particular, rise from its geopolitical slumber.”

The additional troops will be among the 150 troops Britain is already contributing to NATO’s advance in Poland. Britain sent 150 more troops to Poland in December in response to the Belarusian migration crisis. Moraviki thanked Johnson for his “very active role” in the West’s efforts to bring peace to Russia, and reiterated the importance of the European Union.
