PM Khan orders probe into sugar commission report

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister, while taking a major decision to crack down on the sugar mafia, directed the FBR, NAB, SECP and FIA to investigate the report of the Sugar Commission.

On the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Shehzad Akbar, Advisor on Accountability and Admission, sent letters to the Governor SBP, the Competition Commission and the three provinces. Sugar Commission report was also sent along with the letters.

The federal government has asked for an implementation report within 90 days. The federal cabinet approved the action plan on June 23. The FBR was also directed to audit all sugar mills across the country.

The text of the letter said that the FBR should investigate the anonymous transactions of the sugar mills and determine the culprits in the light of the findings of the NAB Sugar Commission. The NAB was asked to investigate the financial affairs of the sugar mills and the owners.
