Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted on social networking site Twitter, that after Mangla and Tarbela, Mohmand and Bhasha would be big dams. After 5 decades of Mangla and Tarbela, Pakistan will have 2 major water reservoirs in the form of Mohmand and Bhasha.

Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has accelerated work on 4 dam projects Mohmand, Diamer Bhasha, Karam Tangi and New Gaj Dam. According to WAPDA sources, these major projects have been launched to increase water storage capacity and prevent further water wastage. These projects will not only store 8.13 million acre feet (MAF) of water but also help generate 5,383.4 MW of low-cost, environmentally friendly energy.

Mohmand Dam on Swat River (Mohmand), Diamer Bhasha Dam on Chilas River, Kurram Tangi Dam on Kurram River in North Waziristan and New Gaj Dam on Gaj (Dadu) River are being constructed.

Similarly, projects of 14 dams have been completed so far and these projects include Tarbela, Mangla, Hub, Khanpur, Mirani, Satora, while 9 more projects of dams are in the planning stage. These include Hangul, Shivak, Chiniot, Maronji, Tank, Bara, Bhimber, Draban Zam and Akhori Dam and Sindh Barrage.
