Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to the overseas Pakistanis for helping the Roshan Digital Account (RDA) accumulate over $4.5 billion in its deposits through their deposit of $57 million in a single day. He called them an asset to Pakistan, mentioning their positive effects on the economy.
He tweeted “Happy that yesterday State Bank received $57 million, the largest inflow in a day ever,” and “Our government stands firmly behind the Roshan Digital Account scheme.”
Furthermore, a survey of the State Bank on Wednesday has revealed that the number of RDA holders has gone up to 400,000.
10,000 of these account holders were approached and 9,777 of them responded to the survey. 23 percent of the residents were permanent and 5 percent were temporary residents of the countries that they are currently in.
70 percent of the members had accounts to support their families while 11 percent used them to invest in the stock market and 22 percent in real estate. 23 percent of these depositors were from the United Arab Emirates, 36 percent were from Saudi Arabia, and 10 percent were from the European Union and the United Kingdom combined.
76 percent of them expressed that they saw the facility as ineffective for the resolution of their complaints and 69 percent spoke up against the long time taken for resolving complaints while 67 percent felt that the officers that partook in this task were not very knowledgeable. 45 percent deemed the process inconvenient.
