Thwarting a terrorism attempt, police today (Sunday) managed to defuse an improvised explosive device (IED) planted near Zebo Goth in the Manghopir area of Karachi.

According to details, the bomb, placed under the debris, was planted near an under-construction building. Upon being alerted by the workers, police and the bomb disposal squad (BDS) reached the spot and defused the bomb.

Station House Officer (SHO) Younus Khattak informed that the bomb was planted by unidentified persons, adding that if it had not been defused the blast could have caused destruction.

However, he said that an investigation has been launched in this regard. SHO Younus Khattak assured that the accused involved in the incident would be punished soon.

Earlier, four people were killed after gunmen stormed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) compound in the southern city of Karachi in an attack claimed by ethnic Baloch separatists that has set off an international row after Pakistan blamed India for supporting the attackers.

Four gunmen attempted to attack the stock exchange building at approximately 10am (05:00 GMT) on Monday morning, firing indiscriminately as they dismounted from their car and charged towards a security barrier at the compound’s entrance.

Likewise, in May, the police foiled a sabotage bid by defusing an improvised explosive device in the Dabar area of Mamond tehsil. According to a statement issued from the DPO office here, the IED was planted near the house of a local resident, Rahatullah.
