President Arif Alvi reaches Lahore to meet Imran Khan

President Arif Alvi has left Islamabad for Lahore to inquire after the health of PTI chief Imran Khan and also discuss the appointment of new army chief and chairman joint chiefs of staff committee.

The government on Thursday named Lt-Gen Asim Munir as chief of the army staff and Lt-Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza as chairman JCSC.

The president left for Lahore on board his special plane from Noor Khan Airbase. He is expected to return to Islamabad Thursday evening.

In a tweet posted on Wednesday, former prime minister Imran Khan said President Arif Alvi will consult him after he receives the summary for Army appointments.

He said he and the president will act according to the laws and Constitution of Pakistan on the matter.
