On Sunday evening, just before leaving for Brussels at Heathrow Airport, Mr Biden told the media: “We had a long talk, she was very generous. I don’t think she’d be insulted, but she reminded me of my mother. In terms of the look of her and just the generosity.”
The queen also asked the US president about Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin. “She wanted to know about two leaders I was going to meet, Mr Putin, and she wanted to know about Xi Jinping,” she told reporters. Mr Biden is due to meet his Russian counterpart next week as he travels to Europe. She was accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden at Windsor Castle.

In 2012, the BBC’s security correspondent, Frank Gardner, was forced to issue a public apology after revealing it on Radio 4, when the Queen told him about Abu Hamza, the imam of the Finsery Park Mosque in north London.
The Press Association had earlier reported a piece of conversation between the Queen and Mr Biden.
