President of Pakistan presents Hilal-e-Pakistan award to Bill Gates #Baaghi

According to Baaghi TV reports, the Hilal-e-Pakistan award ceremony was organized in Islamabad. President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, presented the award to Bill Gates in the presence of Federal Ministers. 

Prior to receiving the prestigious Hilal-e-Pakistan award, the United States (US) business magnate, software developer, and philanthropist, Bill Gates met with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. During the meeting, the two discussed measures to eradicate polio, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC)’s efforts concerning the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), and other significant topics. Bill Gates reportedly praised the projects including the Ehsaas Program.

Prime Minister Imran Khan organized a luncheon in honor of the Microsoft co-founder which was reportedly attended by Federal Ministers including Asad Umar, Shaukat Tareen, and others. 

According to Baaghi TV reports, Bill Gates visited the NCOC headquarters and met with Federal Minister Asad Umar, head of the NCOC, and Dr. Faisal Sultan, health advisor and attending the NCOC meeting. Gates and his delegation were reportedly briefed on the role, mechanism, and achievements of the NCOC since its inception till date. The visiting delegation was given a comprehensive overview of the current situation of Covid-19 in Pakistan along with the NCOC’s efforts towards curbing the spread and public safety.

Gates took a keen interest in the various initiatives of the NCOC, particularly the implementation of the Smart lockdown and the Micro-Smart lockdown strategies. He expressed his views concerning the measures to contain the coronavirus, including the vaccination campaign, and praised the NCOC for their role in dealing with the pandemic.

The Microsoft co-founder arrived in Islamabad, earlier today, for a one-day visit. He will reportedly be returning in the evening. Moreover, Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health (SAPM for Health), said that Bill Gates came to Pakistan for the first time to review progress on the polio eradication program. 

It is pertinent to note that PM Khan and Bill Gates had a telephone correspondence some months prior during which, Gates expressed concern about the health care system in Afghanistan. During the correspondence, PM Khan apprised Gates of efforts to eliminate polio from Pakistan and commended the cooperation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in polio eradication.

It is pertinent to note that the Hilal-e-Pakistan is the second-highest civil award in Pakistan and seeks to recognize people who have made ‘meritorious contributions’ to Pakistan’s national interests including cultural, social contributions, and other private endeavors.
