Feb 3, 2022: According to a report by APP, Prime Minister Imran Khan, on the special invitation of the Chinese leadership, will visit China today (Thursday) and stay there till Sunday, February 6, as per the Foreign Office.

The Foreign Office statement read, “Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit China from February 3-6 to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games, It is highly admirable that the Chinese government has made meticulous arrangements for holding the Winter Olympic Games despite the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by a high level delegation including members of the Cabinet and senior government officials. As a global event, the Olympic Games aim to promote mutual understanding, inclusion and friendship among the people of the world. Beijing will soon become the first city to host both the summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games.

The Foreign Office said that during the visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. The leaders will review all aspects of bilateral relations, especially focusing on strong trade and economic cooperation, including CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor).

“It would thus renew the bilateral commitment to taking the iron-clad partnership between Pakistan and China to new heights and add impetus to cooperation across multiple domains,” the Foreign Office statement further added.

In Beijing, the Prime Minister will also meet with prominent Chinese business leaders and representatives of leading Chinese think tanks, educational institutions and the media. He will also hold other bilateral talks on the occasion. The two sides will also discuss important regional and international issues.

The Prime Minister’s visit will mark the end of the 70th anniversary commemoration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

Reiterating the importance of the visit, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that PM Imran Khan’s China tour would further enhance the bilateral relations between Pakistan and China.

Chaudhry also stated that the prime minister’s visit would follow the arrival of more Chinese businessmen in Pakistan to shift their industries here.
