May 20, 2021 London: The Palestinian flag was raised atop the roof of one combat drone producing factory in Leicester.

According to initial reports, some pro-Palestinian protesters climbed on an Israeli drone factory in Leicester to register protest against Israeli atrocities in Gaza. The factory belongs to Israeli owned Elbit systems subsidiary. The factory build unmanned aerial vehicles that according to the protesters are responsible for the increasing violence in the occupied West Bank.

According to news agencies, the protesters protested on the roof of a war drones factory. Meanwhile, supporters of a group called Palestine Action seized a part of the factory. The demonstrators said that drones made by the same factory were being used in Gaza. The protesters also closed the doors of the factory, which affected the work in the factory.

More than 13 hours after the protestors climbed the roof, at 7:30Pm local time on Wednesday, a spokesperson from among the protesters said there were more than 100 people outside the gate and the group on the roof was hoping to spend the night there. The spokesperson from Palestine Action also said that this move shows they are capable of halting production of drones responsible for escalating violence and resulting war crimes in the West Bank. He added, “The past week has shown the relentless death and destruction that Israeli forces can and will inflict with UK-made munitions and military technology.”

A police presence is being maintained to ensure a peaceful protest does not spiral into violence. Police confirmed they were still negotiating with those on the roof and are engaged with the protesters on the road. Meanwhile, the fire brigades union of Leicseter which was initially called to the scene in anticipation of escalation, later withdrew and the head of the union Graham Vaux said the union does not represent law enforcement, rather the officers were there to ensure there was no loss of human life, he also added that the union supports the right to peaceful protests and stands in support of Palestinian solidarity.
