Lahore, 12th January: Asad Umar, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives said that procurement of COVID-19 vaccine will take some time.

Baaghi TV: Asad Umar, who is the head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has said that the completion of the procurement process of COVID-19 vaccines will take some time.

While addressing a press conference today, Asad Umar said that efforts are underway for getting the COVID-19 vaccines and talks with China have been initiated.

He said that vaccines for frontline workers will arrive soon in Pakistan.

However, the completion of the procurement process of COVID-19 vaccines will take some time. Asad Umar once again appealed the people to continue taking precautions against the virus.

The minister said that the federal government had been recommended to impose strict curbs amid the second wave of the pandemic instead of implementing smart lockdown.

Keeping in view an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases in November last year, the federal government had decided to impose lockdown in coronavirus hotspot areas.

According to reports, at that time, a large number of COVID-19 patients were heading towards hospitals from the first week of December, whereas, those patients shifted to oxygen during the second week of December last year.

Asad Umar tweeted yesterday about the devastating effects of the second wave of a novel coronavirus in the UK and US.

He wrote, “The devastation unfolding in countries like USA & UK these days where there are more cases & covid deaths than at any time in the first wave, show the danger that could face us, if we do not continue to do the right things, with both the state and citizens playing their role.”

He has appealed to the citizens to keep following standard operating procedures (SOPs) against the coronavirus pandemic as the arrival of vaccines will take some time.
