May 25, 2021: Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) says mobile operators must look for consumer consent prior to activating value added services

BaaghiTV: PTA has directed cell portable administrators (CMOs) to send compulsory affirmation messages to their services to enable Value Added Services (VAS) to get their consent for confirmation of activation. The PTA statement further directed the administrators to present a report inside three weeks of the issuance of the order.

The statement said PTA had gotten complaints from buyers that mobile operators now and then activate other value added services, including outsider content/games, without the earlier consent of customers. The PTA treated these objections appropriately as it is an infringement of Section 9 (3) (vii) of the Telecom Consumer Protection Regulations, 2009 to activate any worth added administrations without the assent of the buyers.

The authority said the move is relied upon to make mobile users more comfortable. The statement further said that PTA is focused on ensuring the interests of consumers of telecom administrations in Pakistan.
