March 18, 2021: According to a report by Baaghi TV, a petition was heard against the decision of the Election Commission to declare Akbar Babar as a founding member of PTI.
Supreme Court Justice Yahya Afridi remarked that the party’s foreign funding case is still pending. “What is the problem? Lawyer Imran Khan Anwar Mansoor said that there was no objection to the scrutiny committee of the Election Commission. Before filing the case, Akbar Babar had been expelled from PTI. The Election Commission did not have the authority to declare Akbar S. Babar as a party member. I have said that the Election Commission is not a tribunal or a court to decide.”
Justice Yahya Afridi said that, “you do not object to the foreign funding case, you only object to the presence in the case of Akbaris Babar?” Justice Mushir Alam said that how can it be said that Akbar S. Babar was not a member of the party at the time of filing the foreign funding case. Lawyer Anwar Mansoor said that notice was issued to remove Akbar Babar permanently from PTI in 2011. There is no objection on the committee either. The Islamabad High Court upheld the decision of the Election Commission. It is up to the civil court to decide who is a party member and who is not.
Lawyer Akbar S. Babar said that the notice of expulsion from the party was not presented in any forum. Justice Yahya Afridi said that they are giving notice to you, submit a written reply.
It is to be noted that Prime Minister Imran Khan had challenged the PML-N to hold an open hearing of the foreign funding case, which the PML-N had accepted. They are also ready to broadcast on TV. Of course, the foreign funding case should be shown live on TV, but the case should be heard by sitting the party leaders.
