Punjab govt hints smart lockdown amid COVID-19 fourth wave

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar while ordering strict implementation of SOPs across the province hinted at smart lockdown and other restrictions in view of increase in COVID-19 cases.

According to details, CM Punjab while ordering strict implementation of SOPs across the province said that monitoring teams should check the markets and other places continuously and action should be taken against those violating government directives under the law.

Furthermore, CM Buzdar said that special monitoring teams should be formed during the Eid holidays and all necessary steps should be taken to protect the lives of the citizens. He said that due to non-compliance with SOPs, coronavirus cases are increasing, while the number of patients is also increasing due to carelessness. The fourth wave of coronavirus has also started and people should follow the government instructions.

Usman Buzdar also hinted at smart lockdown and other restrictions in view of the increase in cases, adding that the cooperation of citizens was essential to prevent the fourth wave of COVID-19. The rate of positive cases across the country has risen to 5.25 per cent, while in 24 hours, another 37 people have died from the deadly virus and more than 2,100 cases have been reported.

The NCOC said that 40,805 COVID-19 tests were performed in the last 24 hours, of which 2,145 people tested positive. During this period, the positivity rate among the tested patients was 5.25% while the total number of affected people was 993,872.

Country wide terror threat alert

A total of 993,872 cases detected so far (Azad Jammu and Kashmir 22,192, Balochistan 29,190, Gilgit Baltistan 7,510, Islamabad 84,842, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 140,962, Punjab 351,000, Sindh 358,176),” NCOC reported.

The highest rate was more than 16% in Gilgit-Baltistan, 12.54% in Azad Kashmir and 10.57% in Sindh, while positive cases were reported in Islamabad at 6.76%, Balochistan at 6%, Punjab at 2% and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at 2%.
