Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a government plan to declare a non-working week across the country due to rising cases of the coronavirus.

According to the AFP news agency, President Putin ordered these holidays and employees will be paid during these holidays as Russia registered a record 1,028 coronavirus deaths in a single day.

After a sudden rise in the deaths, the Russian government has announced a nationwide week-long paid holiday starting on October 30, 2021 to curb COVID-19 infections. In the fresh order, Putin urged Russians to vaccinate themselves.

The development comes as Russia on Wednesday reported 1,028 COVID-19 deaths over the previous 24 hours. The nation recorded 34,074 new coronavirus instances, in accordance with an authorities tally.
