June 10, 2021: Oxford University graduates have decided to remove a portrait of Queen Elizabeth from the institution.
BaaghiTV: According to the Washington Post, the resolution to remove the portrait in the common room of Magdalen College was presented by the American student Matthew, who had made the queen a symbol of colonial history.
Elizabeth’s picture was voted on, with ten students voting in favor, two against and five abstaining.
Reacting to the students’ move, the UK’s education minister said the queen was not only the head of state but also a symbol of what is best in Britain. The Minister of Education said that the Queen has spread the British values of tolerance, inclusiveness and respect all over the world.
Oxford University students removing a picture of the Queen is simply absurd. She is the Head of State and a symbol of what is best about the UK. During her long reign she has worked tirelessly to promote British values of tolerance, inclusivity & respect around the world
