Rare Blue Diamond Auctioned over $40 Million
GENEVA: A rare blue diamond reportedly sold for over $40 million in a Christie’s auction in Geneva. According to a BBC report, the 17.61-carat, pear-shaped Bleu Royal diamond which was set in a ring has been sold for $43.8 billion. Founded in 1766 by James Christie, the auction house said in a statement: “This diamond is amongst the rarest to have been unearthed”. According to Christie’s, only three fancy vivid blue diamonds above 10 carats have ever appeared in its 250-year auction history. First in 2012, in 2014, and in 2016.
