Re-polling for LG elections underway in 13 KP districts

Feb 13, 2022: In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), re-voting is going on today (Sunday) for local government(LG) elections at different polling stations in 13 districts.

Polling started at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm without any break. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), re-polling is taking place in various seats of local bodies where elections were postponed on the day of polling due to poor law and order situation or death of candidates contesting the elections.

The thirteen districts include Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Laki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, Khyber and Mohmand.

The ECP on Feb 10, announced a revised schedule for the March 31 LG elections in the remaining districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The new schedule was announced after the Supreme Court of Pakistan suspended the previous order of the Peshawar High Court Abbottabad Circuit Bench.

The Abbottabad bench had directed to postpone LG polling in the hilly areas due to severe weather and in other districts of KP after Ramadan. Immediately after the Supreme Court’s decision, an ECP official had said that the second round of elections would now be held on March 31.

LG Polling for the second phase will be held on March 31, while the results will be finalized on April 4. Earlier, the second round of local body elections was announced on March 27.

A total of 710,472 voters – 362,924 male and 347,548 female – will exercise their constitutional right today.
