Release of Hamza and Shehbaz Sharif still under consideration

Lahore, 24th November: The release of the Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz is still under consideration. According to the report of Baaghi TV, Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan, Provincial Minister for Prisons, Punjab, said that the government would decide on the release of PML-N president on parole as soon as the date of the arrival of his late mother’s dead body in Pakistan will be known.  Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan said that the issue of release on parole of Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz is of utmost importance. Under Rule 545-B of Punjab Prison Rules 1978, the concerned DC can release on parole for only 12 hours and the provincial government has the power to grant parole for a period of more than 12 hours. The Rule states: “The provincial government or the District Coordination Officer may permit a well-behaved prisoner to participate in the funeral of his blood or another relative of the first degree subject to his safety and security under adequate police escort.” Chauhan also said that the government would decide on the release of both the Sharifs on parole as soon as the date of arrival of Begum Shamim Akhtar’s body gets fixed.
