ISLAMABAD: Finance Advisor Hafeez Sheikh has said that at present our priority is not tax collection but giving relief to the people and that is why no new tax has been imposed in the budget.

Talking to News program, Hafeez Sheikh said that we will try to collect taxes in a good way but at the moment our priority is not to collect taxes but to give relief to the people. Many taxes have been waived.

“We are reducing our expenses, some things we can’t afford, we have to pay off past debts which we can’t get rid of,” he said.

“There is a very difficult situation regarding the price of oil in the world market. If the price of oil falls, our thinking will be to benefit the people because it benefits the lower class, if the price of oil goes up,” he said. If they do not fall and rise, we will reduce the petroleum levy so that all the burden does not fall on the people.

Hafeez Sheikh further said that efforts would be made to increase development expenditure from last year and create such schemes to see immediate benefits and increase employment opportunities. This responsibility has been given to the Ministry of Planning.
