Russell Brand, the actor, comedian, and author, has issued a preemptive denial of what he describes as “very serious criminal allegations” stemming from his past. In a video shared on social media, Brand revealed that he had received these allegations in a letter and an email from a “mainstream media TV company” and a “newspaper.” He did not specify the organizations involved but noted that the communications contained a series of aggressive attacks.

Brand firmly denied the allegations, stating, “Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”

Over the weekend, a joint investigation by British media outlets The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s “Dispatches” revealed allegations from four women who claimed that Brand sexually assaulted them separately between 2006 and 2013. One of the women alleged that she was 16 years old at the time of the incident, while Brand was 31.

The women chose to remain anonymous, and CNN has not independently verified their claims. Brand’s literary agency, Tavistock Wood, which had previously represented him, severed all professional ties with the actor in light of the allegations.

At least two of the alleged assaults reportedly took place in Los Angeles, with one woman seeking treatment at a rape treatment center on the same day as the incident. However, she opted not to file a police report, fearing that her accusations would not be taken seriously.

Brand acknowledged his promiscuous past but emphasized that all his past relationships had been consensual. He questioned whether there might be another motive behind these allegations and expressed concern that they were an attempt to control his voice and public image.

While open about his past struggles with addiction and mental health, Brand vehemently denied the “very, very serious criminal allegations” leveled against him.
