NEW DELHI: Russia is incapable of delivering vital military supplies to India because of the Russo-Ukraine war, claimed the Indian Air Force.
According to a Reuters report, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has claimed Russia is unable to deliver vital arms delivery due to the ongoing war with Ukraine. New Delhi has reportedly been worried that after its invasion of Ukraine, the Moscow administration would not be able to follow through with the military supplies.

The IAF made the statement to a parliamentary committee, later published on its website on Tuesday. According to reports, an official of the IAF made the remark that Russia will not be able to make a “major delivery” this year.
On the other hand, a spokesperson for the Russian Embassy in New Delhi stated that there is no “information which may confirm the stated”.
It is worth mentioning that India bought three system units of the S-400 Triumf air defense system in 2018 worth $5.4 billion, and two more systems are expected for delivery. The IAF is also dependent on Russia for its Su-30MKI and MiG-29 fighter jets. Meanwhile, Russia is seen as the largest source of its military equipment in the last few decades.

Since 2017, Russia has provided arms equipment worth $8.5 billion to India according to data released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. On the other hand, India is looking to reduce its ‘dependence’ on Russia, formerly the Soviet Union, by turning to other Western countries namely US, Israel, and France.
The IAF further informed the committee that the Ukraine war has resulted in the delay of supplies cutting its projected capital expenditure, according to Reuters.
