SAPM Shahzad Akbar sent a legal notice to former DG FIA

Lahore, 28thb April: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shehzad Akbar has sent a legal notice to the former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chief Bashir Memon.

According to reports, Shahzad Akbar on Wednesday refuted the allegations by Bashir Memon calling them false and has filed a defamation suit seeking legal action.

According to sources, at the allegations made by Bashir Memon on Tuesday, Shehzad Akbar had said that he would accuse Memon of misrepresentation and slander, hence, legal action would be taken against him which he has acted on today.

SAPM Akbar sent a legal notice through his lawyers, stating that the baseless allegations were an attempt to damage the client’s reputation.

As per reports, Shahzad Akbar has sent a notice to Bashir Memon for Rs. 50 crore in damages. The legal notice also demanded an unconditional apology for the allegations.

Former DG FIA Bashir Memon alleged that last night SAPM Akbar had said he saw Bashir Memon talking lies.

Bashir Memon was never called to meet the Prime Minister or me on the issue of Justice Qazi Faiz. There was no meeting between Bashir Memon and Law Minister.

Shahzad Akbar said that Bashir Memon had never been asked to initiate any case against any individual, the federal cabinet had sent only one case of sedition to the FIA.

Shahzad Akbar added that instructions have been issued to the lawyers to take legal action against Bashir Memon’s slander. Bashir Memon was never asked to initiate any case against any particular person.

Meanwhile, Law and Justice Minister Barrister Farogh Naseem also rebutted the allegations made by former FIA chief and tweeted:

He wrote, “Completely refute baseless allegations levelled by Bashir Memon on Shazeb Khanzadas program Geo TV. I want to categorically state as follows: 1. I have never discussed any issue regarding Justice Qazi Faez Isa with Bashir Memon.”

He added, “2. Azam Khan, Shehzad Akber and Bashir Memon have never come to my office together. Azam Khan has only come to my office once and that was all by himself only to discuss legal reforms.”

Lastly, he wrote, “3. Prime Minister Imran Khan, Azam Khan or Shehzad Akber have never ever stated to me that they have discussed anything with Bashir Memon about Justice Isa. 4. Rights are reserved.”

It is to be noted while giving an interview to a private news channel, Bashir Memon alleged that during his tenure as DG FIA, Faroogh Naseem and Shahzad Akbar wanted him to take action against the Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa and other Opposition leaders.
