Saudi Arabia prohibits Israel from using its airspace
Lahore, 26th May: Saudi Arabia has prohibited Israel from using its airspace.
According to reports, a flight from Israel was scheduled to depart for Dubai at 6 am local time, but Saudi Arabia barred the flight to use its airspace.
According to media reports, Israel Airlines and Tourism Limited said that its flight 661 took off for Dubai at 6 am local time. According to the airline’s spokeswoman, Saudi Arabia did not allow them to cross its airspace and the reason is not yet known.
Officials say the Israeli Foreign Office is looking into the matter.
In December last year, Israeli flights were allowed to use Saudi territory. Israeli media claimed that Saudi Arabia had allowed Israeli flights to the United Arab Emirates to pass through its airspace.
A senior official in the former Trump administration said that after talks between Saudi officials and senior White House adviser Gerard Kushner on Monday, Saudi Arabia allowed Israeli flights to the United Arab Emirates to use its airspace.
Kushner, the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump and US envoys to the Middle East, Evie Berkowitz and Brian Hook, raised the issue shortly after arriving in Saudi Arabia for talks.
“We have resolved the issue,” a US official told Reuters.
The first Israeli airliner was scheduled to depart for Dubai on Tuesday morning, just hours after the agreement was signed.
The failure to reach an agreement on the use of Saudi airspace led to the cancellation of Israeli Airlines flights.
