Saudi Culture Minister meets with Bollywood stars

Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture and Head of the Film Authority Management, met with Bollywood superstars and filmmakers on a three-day visit to India.

According to Indian media, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud met with the Bollywood superstars Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar in Mumbai. 

The Minister of Culture was accompanied by a delegation comprising of representatives from the Film Authority Management and Saudi companies.

According to reports, the Saudi Minister hopes to start a project with the Bollywood royalty for which the meeting could be a major precedent. Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud ‘Explored partnership opportunities’ in his meeting with Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar, according to the Indian Express.

The Saudi Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud shared pictures of the meeting on the social networking website Twitter and wrote, “It was great to meet members of the thriving Indian film community including Bollywood superstars… and explore partnership opportunities together!

According to Arab media, the purpose of the visit is to explore the possibilities of cooperation with the Indian film industry and to find and promote ways of cooperation in this regard. The Minister of Culture has reviewed ways to promote collaboration with the film industry from Indian filmmakers, directors, and other officials. The issue of incentives and facilities for shooting Indian films in the country has also been raised.

In addition, the Saudi Minister of Culture discussed the importance of the International Red Sea Film Festival and the strategy to welcome Indian filmmakers to the festival.

According to Al-Arabiya, Prince Badr bin Abdullah said that the visit to India was an attempt to improve Saudi Arabia’s position in the film industry when the whole world is connected in various ways. “It has become necessary to strengthen cultural cooperation with the whole world, film is a powerful tool in this regard. It’s also important for the economy.”

He added that the visit to India has enabled a strengthening of ties with the emerging film industry in the country. The aim was to explore more avenues to partner with Bollywood, in order to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
