Saudi forces on alert after clash with Iran-backed Houthis
According to reports from Bloomberg, Saudi Arabia’s military is on high alert after deadly confrontations with Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are backed by Iran. These rebels attempted to launch a missile towards Israel, leading to increased tensions in the region.
Unnamed sources revealed that four Saudi soldiers lost their lives during clashes with Houthi forces in the mountainous Jazan Province, which is situated on the border with Yemen. This incident marks the first combat engagement since a previous ceasefire was established with the Houthi rebels in April of the previous year. Prior to this escalation, both sides were making progress toward a peaceful agreement.
The recent border clashes between Yemen and Saudi Arabia came on the heels of Houthi rebels launching winged missiles and drones towards Israel on October 19. The Pentagon claimed that these projectiles were intercepted by an American destroyer in the Red Sea.
According to insiders, Saudi Arabia’s air defense systems also intercepted one of these rockets, preventing it from reaching its intended target. Interestingly, neither the United States nor Saudi Arabia had previously acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s role in thwarting these attacks.
