According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has assured Pakistan of Saudi Arabia’s “unwavering support” and its “promotion of peace and stability in the region”.
The statement said that the Saudi Foreign Minister met with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi and exchanged views on “bilateral interests, security situation in the region including Afghanistan peace process and issues of mutual cooperation for regional peace and coordination”.
According to reports, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were based on ‘brotherhood and mutual trust’ and the two countries would continue to play their role in peace and stability.
His statement added that he also thanked the Saudi leadership for supporting Pakistan and its armed forces.
Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday on a one-day visit.
He had said that after Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit in May, there will be a follow-up visit in which the establishment of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Supreme Coordination Council (SPSCC) will be ensured.
The Saudi minister’s visit was at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and as such, he also addressed a press conference in Islamabad.
Reports state that Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said during the press conference that the state wants to expand the scope of its relations with Pakistan through SPSCC.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing economic ties, saying that that was the focus of his talks with Shah Mehmood Qureshi before the press conference.
The Foreign Minister said, “We have focused on the economic aspect of the relationship and the opportunities to expand beyond the traditional areas of investment.”
He added that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to work together to ensure stability in each other’s territories.
“We have agreed to work on regional issues such as Kashmir, Palestine, or Yemen. We will work together to ensure stability in both our regions,” he said.
