Ismat Adamjee granted bail because of provision in law granting women the privilege

Oct 18, 2021: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Ismat Adamjee, mother of Zahir Jaffer, the main accused in the Noor Muqaddam murder case.

The apex court granted bail against a bail bond of Rs 1 million while hearing a petition filed by Adamjee for her release. However, the court rejected the bail application of Zahir’s father Zakir Jaffer and disposed of his application.

In the last hearing on October 11, the Supreme Court had directed the prosecution to present evidence against Adamjee. On October 6, Zahir’s parents filed separate bail applications in the Supreme Court – about a week after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected their bail applications and directed the authorities to keep them in detention till completion of trial.

The petitions transferred through counsel Khawaja Haris Ahmed said that the case against the petitioners was not based on solid evidence, but the allegations against them were highly speculative.

Last week, the trial court indicted 12 accused in the Noor Muqadam murder case, including Zahir and his parents.

A day before the indictment, Zahir’s parents had also approached the IHC to quash the Sessions Court’s order to indict 12 accused in the case.
