Senate Polls: PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gillani wins a major seat
Lahore, 3rd March: The former Prime Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Yousuf Raza Gillani has emerged victorious against the ruling party’s Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
Baaghi TV: According to reports, PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gillani has won a seat from the federal capital Islamabad in the National Assembly (NA).
According to reports, after the result was announced, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and the former prime minister shook hands and hugged each other.
During today’s Senate elections out of 341 total votes, 340 votes were cast. According to reports, 6 votes have been rejected as dubious votes.
Yousaf Raza Gillani succeeded in getting 169 votes out of the total, whereas, Hafeez Sheikh got 164 votes.
According to reports from Geo News, Hafeez Sheikh’s defeat today may be termed as a huge upset for Prime Minister Imran Khan since he had personally campaigned for Sheikh and had managed to win over most of the government’s allies.
PTI ministers such as Fawad Chaudhry and Sheikh Rashid had earlier claimed that Sheikh would defeat the former prime minister easily.
