Lahore, 3rd March: Polling for the Senate elections of year 20121 which was scheduled from 9 am to 5 pm today has ended, while the counting of votes is currently underway.
According to reports of Baaghi TV, voting that was held in the National Assembly by secret ballot on Wednesday has ended.
According to reports pouring in 7 dubious votes in the National Assembly have been reported and separated.
Polling for Senate elections is over, 37 seats in the upper house are yet to be decided. The fate of candidates 2 in Islamabad, 11 in Sindh, 12 each in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will be decided shortly.
All 340 members of the National Assembly except Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali of Jamaat-e-Islami had cast their votes.
As per reports, PTI’s Shehryar Afridi’s vote is likely to be lost due to the signing of the ballot paper.
On the other hand, 7 out of the total votes cast in the National Assembly have been separated. According to sources, the 7 votes cast are likely to be doubtful.
All 65 members of the Balochistan Assembly voted. In the Sindh Assembly, 167 out of 168 members voted, while Jamaat-e-Islami member Abdul Rashid did not cast his vote.
Polling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was slow and all 145 members cast their votes with an hour delay.
The most interesting and major battle of the Senate elections is for the general seat of the federal capital Islamabad where former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani and Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh are competing against each other.
The ruling coalition has 181 seats, while the opposition parties have 160 seats.
It may be recalled that candidates for all the 11 seats in Punjab have been elected unopposed while today votes were cast for 2 seats in Islamabad, 12 seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11 seats in Sindh and 12 seats in Balochistan.
On the other hand, a total of 14 votes have been rejected in KP, out of which 11 votes belong to members of the ruling party PTI, on which Imran Khan has decided to take strict action.
