PIA Boeing 777 Runway Incursion at Toronto Airport

On October 17, 2021, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK782, was taxiing for departure, entered taxiway Q without clearance and taxied past the hold short line onto the protected area of active Runway 23 at Toronto Airport.

According to the details, the PIA Boeing 777-200 aircraft registration AP-BGY was about to take off from Toronto, Canada to Islamabad, Pakistan.

An Air Canada Boeing 777-300, registration C-FKAU performing flight AC-7290 from Seoul (South Korea) to Toronto, ON (Canada), was on final approach to Runway 23 and was instructed by the tower to go around as result of the runway incursion. However, AC-7290 landed safely on runway 23 about 15 minutes later.

The Pakistani aircraft (registration AP-BGY) departed about a minute after C-FKAU went around. There were 19 crew members aboard the aircraft including the captains and the first officers. Baaghi TV has received the entire list of crew members who are responsible for this incident which could have risk the safety tag of the national carrier of Pakistan yet again.

Nav Canada also reported AP-BGY departed and requested to fly direct waypoint MCKEE on their SEDOG 5 standard departure route, was cleared direct MCKEE but flew a track that way about 30 degrees off until ATC intervened.

Furthermore, Baaghi TV has also learnt from reliable sources that Captain Jahangir Farhat (P-49262), who is the most responsible person for this hazardous incident had been appointed as the Chief Instructor Operations in the Flight Operations Department PIA Training Centre, Karachi.

This appointment has been signed on November 08, 2021 (yesterday) by Athar Hussain, General Manager, Human Resource Department and has the approval of the “Competent Authority”. Such appointments and promotions sometimes raise doubts and questions against the competence of the “competent authority” of the Pakistan International Airlines.

The PIA management should take stern action against such crew members who fail to perform their duties effectively which, at later stages, creates a negative brand image of the airline as well as of the country.
