IHC directs Sessions Court to rehear Govt appeal on Gill’s physical remand
Islamabad High Court Acting Chief Justice Amir Farooq directed the Islamabad District and Sessions Court judge to rehear the government’s appeal to get physical remand of Gill and announce a verdict on the basis of merit.
In the last hearing, Advocate General Jahangir Jadoon had contended before the court that Gill gave a statement on a TV channel that prompted the government to take strict notice and register a case against him.
Now, the hearing on the review application against the order of the judicial magistrate rejecting Shahbaz Gul’s physical remand has now been adjourned till 12:30 am tomorrow (Wednesday).
Why Shahbaz Gill was arrested?
Gill was arrested by the police on charges of inciting rebellion in the military on August 9 and is currently in jail on judicial remand.
On Monday, PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan alleged that Gill, who is also his chief of staff, was tortured while in police custody.
IHC adjourns hearing on Gill’s plea for FIR cancellation till next week
The Islamabad High Court was told that the sedition case against PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was based on mala fide intention as prior approval of the government was not sought for inserting sections under which the case was registered.
Gill’s lawyer Shoaib Shaheen told the court that the case against his client was registered in bad faith as approval of inserted sections pertaining to sedition and incitement charges was not sought by the government.
