IPL Franchises Threatened Sri Lankan Players To Opt Out Of Pakistan Tour, Afridi Claims

LAHORE: Former Cricketer Shahid Afridi has claimed that Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises threatened Sri Lankan players to opt out of Pakistan tour.
According to details, in his recent statement Afridi has claimed that Sri Lankan players are under pressure from IPL franchises. He said “Sri Lankan players are under pressure from IPL franchises. I spoke to SL players last time when there was talk of them coming to Pakistan & playing in PSL. They said they wanted to come, but IPL guys say if you go to Pakistan we won’t give you a contract”.
He also urged Sri Lankan Cricket board to put pressure on players to go to Pakistan. “Pakistan’s always supported SL, it never happened that we had a tour of SL & our players rested. SL’s board should put pressure on their contracted players to go to Pakistan. SL players who’ll come will always be remembered in Pakistan’s history” he stated.
Reportedly, 10 Sri Lankan players decided to opt out of the tour due to security issues. These players includes Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Dinesh Chandimal, and Dimuth Karunaratne. Moreover, Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in 3 ODI’s and 3T20I matches. Series to be played from September 27 to October 9.
