Shah Rukh Khan’s manager skips Special Investigation Team questioning, citing health issues

Oct 21, 2021: Shahrukh Khan today visited Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail to meet his son Aryan Khan, whose bail was rejected yesterday and who has been in jail since October 8 in a drug-on-cruise case.

This was the first meeting between the superstar and his 23-year-old son, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 2 after raiding a rave party on a cruise ship near Mumbai.

Shahrukh Khan, 55, spoke to Aryan for about 20 minutes via intercom in a cubicle in the prison’s meeting hall. The Maharashtra government eased restrictions on prison visits amid the pandemic only recently.

Aryan Khan’s bail has been denied twice. The Bombay High Court will hear his bail application on Tuesday. He spoke to his parents, SRK and Gauri Khan on a video call on Friday.

A special court yesterday rejected Aryan Khan’s bail, saying his WhatsApp chats showed he was involved in “illegal drug activities”. Judge VV Patil said in his order, “At first glance, WhatsApp chats show that accused Aryan Khan is dealing in illicit drug activities for narcotics.”

The court also said that the material on record referred to a “nexus” between Aryan Khan and suppliers and peddlers. The court said that although no drugs were found on Aryan Khan, he knew about six grams of “Charas” in the shoes of his friend Arbaas Merchant, and this was tantamount to “conscious possession”.

While stars like Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, and director Farah Khan have come out in support of Shah Rukh and his son, the film industry has been largely silent in its response to the case.

Over the past year, the NCB has arrested and interrogated several celebrities in what it calls the “Bollywood Drugs” Nexus, a branch investigating the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June last year.
