Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy becomes 1st Pakistani filmmaker to helm Marvel?

Baaghi TV: Leading Hollywood film studio Marvel Comics has hired four directors, including Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, for a TV series starring Muslim female superhero Kamala Khan.

Marvel Comics, a well-known Hollywood film studio, confirmed in May 2018 that it would soon bring the first Muslim female superhero to the screen.

Initially it was said that the first Muslim female superhero character Kamala Khan would be introduced in the movies but now news has come out that the said character will now be introduced in a TV series.

For the TV series starring Muslim female superhero Kamala Khan, Marvel Comic also hired four directors, including Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.

According to the showbiz website Hollywood Reporter, the TV series on the first Muslim female superhero will be aired on Disney Plus and Marvel Studios has hired 4 famous directors to make this series.

Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Indian-American Muslim filmmaker Mira Menon and Belgian-American Muslim filmmakers Adil al-Arabi and Bilal Falah were hired to make the first Muslim woman’s TV series.

According to the report, the four directors will direct a superhero TV series based on the character of Kamala Khan and possibly the four directors will direct separate episodes.

It is not yet clear when the shooting of the TV series will start and when the series will be released, but it is thought that the shooting of the series is likely to start by the middle of next year.

After hiring directors, Marvel Studios is now looking for an actress to play the role of Kamala Khan and the studio is trying to find an actress who belongs to Pakistan as Kamala Khan’s character is also of Pakistani origin.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios President Kevin Fudge has also said that after the TV series on Kamala Khan is made, the said character will also be portrayed in films.

It may be recalled that the Muslim female superhero character Kamala Khan was first introduced by Marvel Comics in the book ‘Miss Marvel’ in 2014. Other female superhero characters were also introduced in the same book.
