SHC reverses decision on banning TikTok in Pakistan
Sindh High Court (SHC) has lifted the ban on TikTok application and ordered Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to restore the app.
On Friday, the SHC ruled in favor of the PTA on banning TikTok and directed the PTA to expedite the disposal of applications related to LGBT (homosexuality).
It may be recalled that the Sindh High Court had last month ordered the PTA to ban TikTok, in compliance with which the PTA had shut down the application nationwide on June 30, 2021.
The Sindh High Court had issued a restraining order in the civil suit and banned TikTok. However, the PTA promised to dispose of the complaints about homosexuality by July 5, 2021. The court adjourned the hearing until July 5.
The PTA, on Friday, filed an application against the decision to withdraw the restraining order from the court.
It is pertinent to mention here that over six million videos were taken off from TikTok in Pakistan in three months, the app said, as it battles an on-off ban in the country.
