Oct 17, 2021: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said that the issues related to the appointment of the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) will be resolved by next Friday.
Talking to reporters in Islamabad on Saturday, Sheikh Rashid said that there was no contention between the government and the establishment on the issue of important appointments. Rejecting speculation about any differences, the Interior Minister said, “Some elements are deliberately trying to make the intelligence agencies controversial, but they will fail miserably.”
He said that the enemies of the country would fail to fulfill their aspirations. “There is no threat to the political government,” he said, adding that things were moving in the right direction.
The Interior Minister said that all matters relating to the appointment of the ISI chief have been settled to the mutual satisfaction of the Army and the Prime Minister’s Office. “I also met Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is satisfied with the way the situation has been resolved,” he said.
Rashid said the announcement could be made earlier than announced.
Talking about the celebrations surrounding Eid Milad, Sheikh Rashid said that all arrangements have been finalized for holding celebrations on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 12th Rabi-ul-Awal, including the convention center where the Prime Minister will address. He added that various celebrations were planned in the twin cities as Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions and rallies would be organized in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, besides many other activities.
Reacting to widespread criticism of rising fuel prices, he said that the wave of inflation has affected the entire world. He added that rising prices of petroleum, edible oil, wheat and other food items in international markets had an impact on the country.
The interior minister also commented on the Afghanistan situation saying sustainable peace in Afghanistan is a condition of stability in the region and the world. He said that Pakistan wants peace and stability in Afghanistan. Rashid said the situation in the region was changing rapidly and that Pakistan, as a responsible state, would fulfill its national security responsibilities while meeting international expectations to strengthen peace in Afghanistan.
He added that Pakistan is ready to support Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds. He said the international community should support Afghanistan on humanitarian grounds.
