Shoaib Akhtar criticises ICC for not naming Babar Azam Player of the Tournament

Nov 15, 2021: Cricketing legend, Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has criticized the decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to nominate David Warner as the Player of the Tournament for the ICC T20 World Cup.

The world’s fastest bowler along with millions of others around the world wanted Pakistan captain Babar Azam to be awarded the tournament’s best player award for his excellent batting in the T20 World Cup.

Shoaib Akhtar tweeted, “I was really looking forward to @ babarazam258 becoming the man of the tournament. Definitely an unfair decision”.

During the course of the T20 world cup, Babar Azam top-scored with 303 runs at an average of 60.60 while Warner was second with 289 runs at an average of 48.16.

Along with Babar Azam, the other Pakistani batter to make the leader board was Mohammad Rizwan who came in at number three by scoring 281 runs at an average of 70.25.

Last night in the final played in Dubai, Australia made history by winning their first T20 World Cup on Sunday night when the Kangaroos beat New Zealand by 8 wickets to win the final.

Australian batter Mitchell Marsh was declared the man of the match for his unbeaten 77 runs. Australia won the toss and elected to field first. Earlier in the history of the T20 World Cup, the two teams had only played together once when New Zealand had beaten Australia by 8 runs in India.
